Fitness

June 26, 2008

The best shape I’ve been in was when I was on a Varsity football team in high school. I’ve always maintained a steady weight throughout years (23+) and it is safe now to arrive a conclusion to say that my metabolism is moderate. All those obese (genetically or not) Americans out there actually do make me disappointed for not giving a damn. By seeing them has helped me to be more self-conscious because frankly, I don’t want to end up like them. It’s never too late to start working-out unless you ended up having no limbs. My stepmother had started her diet at least a year ago and I think she shaved off 50+ pounds – she actually look great and still working out.

I’ve been working out a lot since June 1st. Before that date, I was cleaning out my apartment and getting ready to move out, my mind has finally told me that I’m feeling overweight and very out-of-shape. Guaranteed, moving out was tough and a dirty job but that has jump started my work out mentality. I believed what happened was that I was not driven to exercise or did not care to. Also, I thought that I was very inactive and using my car too much to drive around campus – unless there’s a blizzard out and it’s 10 degrees. And I played too much damn video games. Pretty soon that’s gonna go and my ass would be more productive and active than all of 3 years combined (since I bought the 360).

As far as some of you may be aware that I am stuck in this shit-hole the State of New York call “Rochester” for the summer taking a course I really (I repeat – REALLY) need to effin’ pass! (Side note: So far, so good.) My daily workout consisted of walking and biking. Since I live at a place that my name’s not leased under, I do not have a resident parking pass. I had to park my car at a good distance from here where I still have a valid parking pass. Most of the days I do not need the car which is good since gas prices here are at a whopping $4.15 and it could be worse in the unforeseeable future.  I have classes 4 days a week and biking would be approximately 2.34 miles round-trip (according to this fantastic work out map – www.mapmyrun.com).

I have also developed a routine at the gym where I hold a student membership for the summer with friend(s). Most of the time my warm ups are at the basketball courts shooting baskets. Then I go straight to the weight area and start lifting there. I do different muscles for different days and I try not to hurt myself. I’ve already hurt my lower abdominal muscle which is not the greatest feeling ever. Different work outs here and there and not overdoing myself with heavy weights than I was capable of. At the beginning of starting my workouts at the gym, my muscles were really sore and now as weeks progresses – it’s starting to build up muscle pain-free if I keep constantly going to the gym. I’m focused on my abdominal/chest area where I think it needs the most attention, however a full body work out is what I want to achieve.

As for eating habits, I tend not to care about fat. I go for taste. I usually eat big meals and finish when I’m already passed being full. Now, since I do not have any money, I do not have the freedom of buying anything I want or as much food I would like to bring home. But I have carefully chosen some food that could last me for 2 weeks which portions would come into effect. But obviously, I need to work on my nutrition and I’ll be researching on it.

  • Started my summer at 198 pounds.
  • As of now (through three weeks), 191 pounds.

I thought to take a famous work out motivation tool. That’s to take “Before/After” photos as time goes by. I haven’t thought of taking a photo of myself earlier but thought it’s a pretty good time to start it now. I’ll borrow a friend’s camera and take my first photo this weekend. I’ll post the photos maybe at the end of the summer or when the results are surprisingly showing. It’d be best to wait at the end though when everyone’s back from school. Not sure if results would be ready but for sure come Christmas and Spring Break as I have committed and determined to continue this mentality.

  1. lol fat bastard, glad to hear you’re movin and shakin

  2. It is therefore very important to create a balance between exercise, rest and diet to stay healthy and fit. Exercising too much and eating too little will not do you any good so forget about reducing your food and fluid intake to reduce your body size and weight fast. You will get sick if you do that.

  3. I have started to feel some lightheadedness or short of breath two days ago.

As I do not have any money, which food I should especially focus on the most from your experience? I read it’s best to drink a protein shake and a banana half hour after work out and eat a meal about two hours later.

  4. yayy glad you’re working out!! I’m getting my work out from being with the kids on a daily basis too!
