WHY SO SERIOUS?

August 5, 2008

You know, fuck Movie Reviews. I ain’t got too much time for it. But I can say this, The Dark Knight is an epic movie.

Life’s okay, not exactly great. Am almost done with Calculus – 3 hours of class time, an unit exam, and a final exam left. Can’t wait, I’m celebrating it by going back to home sweet home Colorado and that won’t last for long. A couple days at the most, but I’ll be picking up my Envoy and head back East to Myrtle Beach. Girls in bikinis and booze galore with my old friends from Freshman year.

Next post will be in September. Too busy from now ’til then. Don’t waste your time coming back here with high hopes I have posted another.

Why so serious?

An Extraordinary Anniversary

July 28, 2008

I made a long-awaited trip out to Niagara Falls this afternoon, I took my girlfriend with me there for our anniversary. Being in upstate for several years and surprisingly enough, I’ve never made an attempt to visit the Falls. No words could describe our time there, the scenic is absolutely gorgeous and a ride on the Maid of the Mist made it even more majestic. Thank god for free ponchos provided for us on the ride at the bottom of the falls.

Mixed emotions aside, we had a good time sitting at a park (may I include – beautiful weather) and we talked for a good while. We also took our time looking at many different tourists, there were a lot of tourists from India. I told her I want to see the Taj Mahal.

We got on the trolley and made our way to the Top of the Falls restaurant. We first dined outdoor but it has gotten colder and windy, we moved inside. The view was breathtaking. Spinach and Cheese Bread is an appetizer to die for.

This anniversary is not like any of our previous anniversaries – this was special under many circumstances. Thus, “an extraordinary anniversary”.

A Non-Movie Review Post

July 17, 2008

I’m gonna take a brief break from doing Movie Reviews, it’s starting to make my blog looking a little bleak. I’ve decided to write Movie Reviews for WALL-E, Wanted, and Hancock at some point when I have nothing else to add.

As for me working out, I have not had the chance to work out at the gym much after the 4th of July weekend. And no, it’s not a bad thing but I am feeling much better right now. I still am active however, I’ve been working a lot outside for Gladys and did some wood working this time around. I can’t wait for Gladys to get back from her trip so she can finally pay me and so I can finally pay myself for food and gas. Anyways, so I’ve been working on her yards – also I have for the first time at this campus I ran the entire loop without stopping. I’m still in shock that I had accomplished this, it was like 95 out and I was sweating so much, was very thirsty. I was glad to prep an already ice-cold glass of water when I get back – that was probably what kept me going and all I could think of was that water. And with running, I’ve also played some tennis for fun with my girlfriend and been to the pool a couple times. So it does feel good to be very active. I have mentioned earlier in this blog, I started out this summer topping at 198 pounds. So far after approximately 7 weeks, I am now at 184 pounds. I’ve been very careful with this losing weight thing as I know losing pounds fast could be deadly. I still eat normally and tried to eat as much as I could without forcing the food to come down. I still got ways to go but I do feel good. It’s a bummer that I forgot to pose myself for the “Before/After” shoot. But for those who knows me, would probably noticed differences once I shave some more pounds.

As for Project XBOX Demolition, I have found a buyer and I feel good that it’s going to someone I know. So it’s going to be out of my hands sometimes in August when he’s got the $$. Yes, I’ll miss it but I’d rather not play it anymore. There’s no urgency for that as I was aware new titles will be out.

Calculus is going alright – got a test this Friday. Wish me luck and I should be studying than writing this up. Well – I’ve got all day Thursday to make up for it.

Until then.

The Strangers

July 15, 2008

“The Strangers directed by Bryan Bertino is one of the better horror/thriller movies since Double Jeopardy – all the movies in between are horrible and plots are similar. This is sure to make you jump a little once in a while. The ending was a major disappointment as it could be choreographed better. Overall, there were some things that they could have done – turn off the music, many bullets for the shotgun were available, etc. Liv Tyler is sure to be a rising actress.” -BL

Dollface: Is Tamara here?

I give it a 34%. (RottenTomatoes.com’s Top Critics: 55%)

First Movie Review: Iron Man

July 14, 2008

I have decided to write my own movie reviews on WordPress, I have tried an attempt on making and continuing my review journal on RottenTomatoes.com but it just doesn’t work out – I need an audience and WordPress obviously provides that. This whole thing started because I liked looking up RottenTomatoes.com’s Top Critics reviews and it’s rating once a new movie’s out or preparing to rent an old DVD. For example, one of my personal favorite movies of all time is American Gangster and it was rated at 76% by RT’s Top Critics. 76% is not considerably bad, but it is still a good movie to enjoy.  I thought it’s a fun way to criticize movies.

I criticize movies only when:

  • First and foremost, it’s Open-Captioned (OC)..
  • Attending a showing at a local theater.
  • And most importantly, the movie’s Open-Captioned.

————————————————————————————–

My first movie review ever was (Originally posted on RottenTomatoes.com):

IRON MAN

“Storyline’s fantastic and Marvel’s first full motion picture production is a success! And – Mr. Downey’s a perfect fit for this type of superhero. I’ve enjoyed the technology perspective Marvel have created and it is visually breathtaking. Goosebumps here and there occurred in some parts of the movie. Lastly, I like how a movie can be near realistic in a sense that they have used the term “MySpace” in the beginning.” -BL

“The truth is… I’m Iron Man.” – Robert Downey Jr. as Mr. Tony Stark

I give it a 96%. (RottenTomatoes.com’s Top Critics: 92% average)

————————————————————————————–

I’ll have to catch up and update reviews for the 4 movies that I’ve seen after Iron Man – The Strangers, WALL-E, Wanted, Hancock

Independence Day ‘08

July 8, 2008

It has been a while since I have written my last post, I better get back to this. This post is going to be very simple and general.

My girlfriend added 5-week summer courses as she came back from the Southwest program and she needed a way to get back to New York. I left Rochester for the Independence Day weekend celebrating with my girlfriend and her family. It was a lot of fun and we saw fireworks at the Naval Academy. It was also a very relaxing weekend, as I would not want to go into many details about it on this. Memories are sometimes made personally and best when telling a story in person. But I made the trip back in my “Bat Mobile” and my girlfriend is here for the summer – that makes summer more fun right now.

We saw Wall-e and it was a funny movie and it was evidently also creative. I saw many purposes of the movie as a result of what’s happening in today’s world – I don’t want to be a spoiler so I’ll leave it at that.

I have thought out of things to add to this post earlier but I forget. So you know I’m still around and well. Ciao!!

One thing: JOB

June 30, 2008

I’ve decided to write a post mostly on one thing: JOB. This would also serve as an excellent motivation tool for my future use.

Still no job a month into summer – it sure does suck. Especially in my shoes because unlike many hard of hearing people out there, I don’t reap the wonderous benefits of SSI. To basically survive, I would need income and passive income would absolutely be very nice. Yes, I still work at my school’s Athletic Department but there are no hours during the summer since there are no collegiate sports being played. I have asked for a job in an office or something – unfortunately they can’t find anything for me.

So, all negativity aside, I have been working for a college professor as of recent. A friend and ex-roommate of mine has recommended me to the professor for taking his place. This “job” is still new as I have already logged 11 hours in two days doing dirty, hard yard work around her home. She’s very nice and genuine, also very flexible – that makes the work easier. There are almost basically no rules attached – I can use my phone as much I want to, breaks as much as I want to, and take a piss as much as I want to after drinking a gallon of H2O. The work I did the past two days consisted of weeding alongside her mile-long driveway. Trust me, it’s horrendous and it seemed like it hasn’t been taken care of in years. Gladys, the professor, is going to Russia somewhere for a study abroad program and I can pretty much come and go for three weeks getting the work done. Just basically a lot of weeding and “cleaning up” as there are so many leaves around that has been sitting there since Fall.

I’m still currently searching for real work where I can work during the weekends while a new academic year’s underway. I could always re-apply at Dick’s Sporting Goods as many times as I can. Sometimes in August would be fantastic as some kids might stop working and head back to school. So there’s that opportunity I have to be sure to take advantage of.

When the new year start, I have a part-time position (Sport Assistant) being in charge as a  Sports Weekend 2009 Coordinator. So it should be a good year and I’m looking to get that damn trophy back from a controversial tally count with our rivals!! This time we’re hosting here on our home turf!

So I feel sorta relieved to be having some money at least during the school year.

This summer so far has still convinced me to look elsewhere out of New York because it’s dreadful here. (It’ll be nice to have my girlfriend around as she is planning on being here for summer school. Having a company like her is always wonderful.) I’m looking to try to get a job at ESPN or reapply at Colorado Rockies (and any other professional sport teams). So I’ll be putting all of my effort this year to make sure I do actually have fun at work and make money.

And P.S. STOP SUCKING, ROCKIES!

Fitness

June 26, 2008

The best shape I’ve been in was when I was on a Varsity football team in high school. I’ve always maintained a steady weight throughout years (23+) and it is safe now to arrive a conclusion to say that my metabolism is moderate. All those obese (genetically or not) Americans out there actually do make me disappointed for not giving a damn. By seeing them has helped me to be more self-conscious because frankly, I don’t want to end up like them. It’s never too late to start working-out unless you ended up having no limbs. My stepmother had started her diet at least a year ago and I think she shaved off 50+ pounds – she actually look great and still working out.

I’ve been working out a lot since June 1st. Before that date, I was cleaning out my apartment and getting ready to move out, my mind has finally told me that I’m feeling overweight and very out-of-shape. Guaranteed, moving out was tough and a dirty job but that has jump started my work out mentality. I believed what happened was that I was not driven to exercise or did not care to. Also, I thought that I was very inactive and using my car too much to drive around campus – unless there’s a blizzard out and it’s 10 degrees. And I played too much damn video games. Pretty soon that’s gonna go and my ass would be more productive and active than all of 3 years combined (since I bought the 360).

As far as some of you may be aware that I am stuck in this shit-hole the State of New York call “Rochester” for the summer taking a course I really (I repeat – REALLY) need to effin’ pass! (Side note: So far, so good.) My daily workout consisted of walking and biking. Since I live at a place that my name’s not leased under, I do not have a resident parking pass. I had to park my car at a good distance from here where I still have a valid parking pass. Most of the days I do not need the car which is good since gas prices here are at a whopping $4.15 and it could be worse in the unforeseeable future.  I have classes 4 days a week and biking would be approximately 2.34 miles round-trip (according to this fantastic work out map – www.mapmyrun.com).

I have also developed a routine at the gym where I hold a student membership for the summer with friend(s). Most of the time my warm ups are at the basketball courts shooting baskets. Then I go straight to the weight area and start lifting there. I do different muscles for different days and I try not to hurt myself. I’ve already hurt my lower abdominal muscle which is not the greatest feeling ever. Different work outs here and there and not overdoing myself with heavy weights than I was capable of. At the beginning of starting my workouts at the gym, my muscles were really sore and now as weeks progresses – it’s starting to build up muscle pain-free if I keep constantly going to the gym. I’m focused on my abdominal/chest area where I think it needs the most attention, however a full body work out is what I want to achieve.

As for eating habits, I tend not to care about fat. I go for taste. I usually eat big meals and finish when I’m already passed being full. Now, since I do not have any money, I do not have the freedom of buying anything I want or as much food I would like to bring home. But I have carefully chosen some food that could last me for 2 weeks which portions would come into effect. But obviously, I need to work on my nutrition and I’ll be researching on it.

  • Started my summer at 198 pounds.
  • As of now (through three weeks), 191 pounds.

I thought to take a famous work out motivation tool. That’s to take “Before/After” photos as time goes by. I haven’t thought of taking a photo of myself earlier but thought it’s a pretty good time to start it now. I’ll borrow a friend’s camera and take my first photo this weekend. I’ll post the photos maybe at the end of the summer or when the results are surprisingly showing. It’d be best to wait at the end though when everyone’s back from school. Not sure if results would be ready but for sure come Christmas and Spring Break as I have committed and determined to continue this mentality.

If your dog is fat, you’re not getting enough exercise.  ~Author Unknown

Any comments/advices about working out would be greatly appreciated and will be taken into consideration.

George Carlin

June 23, 2008

Okay maybe I have killed George Carlin.

I happened to have had a link to this wiki site of “The Seven Dirty Words” that Mr. Carlin humored about in my beta days of developing WordPress (on my header). And a couple of days ago, I took it off due to a much improved design of my site right now. And one of my friends left me messages on my AIM saying,

“George Carlin died! You had this site of him up in your blog and you should dedicate a post to him!”

I’m making it simple and quick because frankly I do not know him. I only know him as an entertainer and a comedian – I have all the respect in the world for comedians as I grew up watching my brother watching Comedy Central staged by all those random stand-up comedians trying to make a living. Maybe the next Chris Rock or… George Carlin.

It is up to you to decide that my “voodoo” skills has killed him or not when I took off the wiki link…

Rest in peace George Carlin.

Project XBOX360 Demolition

June 19, 2008

Project XBOX360 Demolition? WTF is that?

My goal this summer was to get rid of my XBOX360, which has been sitting on my desk for 2 years (give or take). I know I have said I’ll do that/say that several times in the past and that was probably due to a frustration or a phase I’ve gone through (ha). But this time – it is for real.

  • I’ve told my girlfriend about this a couple of days ago. She has said she will be mad if I get rid of it. I know she’s gonna feel the opposite – she’ll be more happy since I will be spending more time with her without a XBOX.
  • I’ve told Voyeurism and Vegas too. They don’t believe that I will do it.

But – of course I wouldn’t “demolish” my XBOX like hammerin’ it to pieces in the streets. It would be scripted more along the lines like a divorce. My outline on how do divorce my XBOX was to reduce the amount of time I make out with it (gaming). Simple? Yeah. Evidence – I haven’t played on it since Friday (5 full days).

Some of you may want to know WHY? Well, I feel that I am not getting much out of it. I know it’s entertaining and fun but we don’t make money for pushing the buttons like the Ogres do. I feel I am wasting my life away sitting on my ass for however many hours a day and not making a single buck. Now that I am very, very, VERY broke and I realize if I never had a XBOX, I may have a lot more money than I have today.

Also, now I am starting to stereotype gamers. I don’t know what reason or why but I feel I’ll be better off without gaming. I’m making this a negative thing but believe me, I’ve had many good memories from gaming – in no particular order:

  • Introducing Halo 3 as a sport for RIT/Gallaudet Sports Weekend 2008
  • GRAW with Crazy J, JBLAZE, and Voy
  • Halo 2: Midship CTF against Voy – last flag EPIC FAIL
  • FarCry, Rainbow Six Vegas
  • Buttloads of LANs
  • Tournament hosted by a club at IT building with gay gametypes
  • MLG Meadowlands Playoffs ‘06, MLG Chicago ‘07 (never made it, got lost in the city), MLG Meadowlands ‘08

NOTE: I’m not going to vanish from the gaming world of course, I’ll still be a fan of Major League Gaming (MLG).

And, a new hobby would be nice. I’ll figure it out as soon as my XBOX is off the desk as it has been sitting there for me the past 2 years. A motorcycle? Maybe.

I’ll keep you updated on it.
